Full Moon / Nose Hill 2009

The intensity of the full moon rising over Nose Hill, NW Calgary AB, brings a sense of peace to me. A magnified bald eagle flies over, as if we see the landscape from the eagles’ point of view. There are 3 deer, distant on the horizon.

Sunflower - 2  2009

The expressionist style sunflower is a study of Egon Schiele's painting (1909-1910) and an addition to my first Sunflower study of his. The Sunflower 1 is in Peter Hrysko's private collection. The abstract quality of the sunflower is mesmerizing. This particular painting is a feminine representation of the flower with contrasting colorful attributes. This Sunflower 2 is in Mildred Lenyk's private collection.

ARTIST BIO

Andrea Hrysko was born and raised in the small suburb of Delta, BC. She marveled in adventurous things like feeding the squirrels at Stanley Park, learning tricks on the trampoline and riding horses. She was quick to excel in art at a young age and soon took to drama and eventually Art Therapy.

Andrea moved with her family, and for several years, resided in Calgary, AB. Through Art College, she was filling the shoes of an activist artist while beginning to familiarize herself with yoga practice. She was, and still is, interested in community, environmentalism and politics; all important spheres of life. Seeking inspiration, she enjoyed living in the small towns of Canmore (AB) Nelson (BC) and Williams Lake (BC). Meanwhile, Andrea continued to journal and to create art for personal pleasure.

As a social service provider, Andrea has focused on serving children, youth and families for over a decade. Now as a certified Art Therapist, she continues to dedicate much of her time to children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She works with various agencies and as an independent contractor as she builds a body of professional art works. Andrea currently resides in Anmore, BC.
